Willa Beatrice Shambery Spruill was born on January 6, 1931 to the late Marie (Shambery) Winslow and Philmore Shambery. "Bea" as she was affectionately called departed this life in the early morning hours of Friday, January 15, 2021.
"Bea" joined and attended St. Paul AME Zion Church, Hertford, NC at an early age, where she was active and served as Treasurer of the Usher Board until her health would know longer allow her to do so.
Her joys and passions were the simple things in life. The birth of her only grandchild was by far her greatest joy in life. She enjoyed working in her church, preparing meals for her family (especially for her baby brother Joe), planting and caring for many plants and flowers, participating in Take of Pounds (TOPS of Perquimans County) and taking trips with other senior citizens. In her later years when her health started to deteriorate, she enjoyed traveling with and being spoiled by her daughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-Vick; step grandson-William; six siblings-Elsie Cason, Philmore Shambery, Jr., Annie Ruth Lindsey, William "Pete" Winslow, George "Louis" WInslow and Joe "Big Red" Winslow.
The family of Ms. "Bea" will commemorate a beautiful life on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 with an hour of peregrinate in the sanctum of Melton Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Winfall, NC starting at the noon hour. At the one o'clock hour Pastor Alvin J. Boone, Sr., along with the family will process into the sanctum to begin the Farewell Ceremony of Mother "Bea". She will be inhumed in the Cedarwood Cemetery, Hetford, NC.
"Bea" leaves many years of fond memories to her loving and devoted daughter-Elsie; her pride and joy her grandson-Troy; two great grandsons-Draca and Michael; one great-great graanddaughter-Ameerah; two loving brothers-Calvin and Frankie Winslow; caring friend-Gail Blocker; special and loving cousins-Horace and Louise Reid; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Shambery-Spruill Families have chosen the Dennis J. Stallings Memorial Funeral Home, to carry out their wishes to honor their mother, sister, grandmother and friend. DJSMFH professional staff will assist the Shambery Family during their time of bereavement and beyond through unprecedented, sincere, heartfelt, compassionate and personalized detailed services.
