Mary Ida Manley Bond was born to the late Howard and Daisy Manley on May 1, 1948 in Hertford, NC. She departed this earthly life on October 27, 2020 at 9:52 am at the Carrollton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Williamston, NC.

At an early age, Mary joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she sung in the choir. Mary attended Perquimans County Union School in Winfall, NC. Upon graduation she attended Durham Business School in Durham, NC and obtained a certificate as a Key Punch Operator. While in school, Mary met and fell in love with Luther Bond. The two were married in December 1967 and to this union one daughter, Lynette Bond, was born. Mary later moved to Detroit, MI and worked as an IBM Operator at Michigan Bell Telephone Company.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory her husband,Luther Bond of Detroit, MI; a daughter, Lynette Bond of Elizabeth City, NC; 6 sisters: Yvonne Parker (Robert) of Fredericksburg,VA,Paulette Cox (Herman – deceased) of Charlotte,NC,Amanda Godfrey (Frederick) of Elizabeth City, Sharon Kirby (William) of Clayton, NC, Monica Bonner of Edenton, NC, and Chanda Felton (Michael) of Edenton, NC; 4 brothers: Shelton Manley (Deborah) of Hertford, NC, Donald Manley (Shirley) of Hertford, NC, Ronald Manley (Dollie) of Hillside, NJ, and George Perry (Clarine) of Edenton,NC; 2 brother in laws: Charles Bond (Irene) of Detroit,MI and Rufus Bond of Drummond, TN. She was the grandmother to 5 grandchildren: Dakeem Bond, Kasawn Holley, Kemaya Holley,Mustafa Holley (deceased), and Jakaiya Holley; and 2 great grandchildren: Kylie and Kaliyah Bond; she also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary will be remembered for her loving spirit and infectious laugh. She loved telling jokes and stories. Mary loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Mary also enjoyed baking cakes, playing cards, and crocheting. Mary crocheted many hats for the residents of the nursing home and they honored her by having “Mary Bond Hat Day".
