Mable Johnson-Turner Obituary

"ALL day and ALL night ANGELS are watching over the Turner Family"

"...I'm going to take a trip in the old gospel ship, Going far beyond the sky, I'm going to shout and sing

until all Heaven rings, when I'm bidding the world goodbye..."

During the early morning hours of Saturday, March 23, 2024 Deaconess Emeritus Mable Johnson Turner received her one-way ticket to board the Gospel Ship and bid this world good-bye.

Mable  was the second oldest child born to the late George and Kate Johnson on a hot Wednesday in August. She was also preceded in death by five sisters. Mable received her education from Perquimans Training School in Winfall, NC.

In 1948, she married the love of her life James E. Turner, Sr., and to this union they were blessed with four children.

Mable loved her family. Besides spending time with her family, she loved to cook and bake for  them. Mable’s 30 day cake, 7-up cake, coconut pies, homemade rolls, cornbread, chicken  and dumplings, tomato pudding will be missed by all. She worked for a number of years at IXL Cabinet Company in Weeksville, NC, where her smile lit up the work place on a daily basis. Her coworkers couldn't wait for their birthday because they knew Mable would have their favorite sweet treat waiting for them.

The Turner Family will reflect on a ninety-four year life well lived by Deaconess Turner on Saturday, April 06, 2024 during the viewing of her earthly remains starting at eleven o'clock in the morning, in the sanctum of Melton Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Winfall, NC. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at noon, where she will be Eulogized by her nephew, Rev. James Modlin. Immediately after the Celebration of Life Services for Deaconess Turner, she will be laid to rest next to her sweetheart in the Cedarwood Cemetery in Hertford, NC.

Mable leaves to cherish her memory her son James E. Turner Sr. of Norfolk, VA, daughter Naomi  Twine of Edenton, NC, devoted daughter Carol Brothers and loving son-in law Bill of Virginia Beach, VA, son Daryl Turner (Gwen) of Seaford, DE; brother George Johnson of Baltimore, MD and sister Doris Rainey of Elizabeth  City, NC. She also leaves to cherish her memory her grand children, great grand children, great-great grand children along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Turner Family entrusted the team at the Dennis J. Stallings Memorial Funeral Home, to carry out the final wishes of care and love for their beautiful mother. DJSMFH professional staff will assist the Turner Family during their time of bereavement and beyond through unprecedented, heartfelt and personalized detailed services.
