The Matriarch of the Steward Family, Mr. Herbert Steward was called home on the night of March 24, 2020. Mr. Steward is now reunited with the love of his life, that he shared sixty-one years with Mrs. Susie Bell Riddick Steward.

He was the son of the late Herbert and Hellen Long Steward.  Herbert matriculated through the public schools in Elizabeth City, NC. He enjoyed and mastered many careers such as an electrician, mechanic and even his very own company that he named, " Herb's Trucking". During the time that he along with his family lived in New York, he was a member of the New Zion Church of Christ. Upon returning to North Carolina in the early nineties, he joined Spirit and Truth Ministries.

Due to COVID-19 at this time ALL services for Mr. Herbert Steward will be conducted PRIVATELY for the family. In the future, the Steward Family will decide on conducting a public Memorial Service to honor their father.

Mr. Herbert leaves to cherish his memories three daughters-Cathey Steward Buchanan-Linton, Gail Banton (William Banton, Jr.), Suzette Spence (J.Lemuel Spence); two sons-Herbert Steward, Jr. and Anthony Ray Steward; two adopted daughters-Nicole and Shaniqua Steward; two sisters-M. Alverta White and Mary Skinner; one brother-Calvin Steward; fourteen grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Steward Family granted the team of DJSMFH the most auspicous pleasure of allowing them to be their funeral home of choice for their father. DJSMFH vows to the Steward Family to provide them with uncprecedented, sincere,heartfelt, compassionate and personalize detailed services. Please continue to uplift the family of Mr. Herbert Steward and all connected families through words of comfort, prayer, thought or a smile!
