Doris "Dot" Turner Obituary

"When the eyes of blind ones see again, and the ears of deaf ones hear again, when the songs of children fill the air, and joy and peace are everywhere, when our loved ones will return to life..."

Doris Marie “Dot” Kinney Turner passed on October 22, 2021 at the Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC . She was born on August 26, 1942 to the late Ernest and Mary George Kinney, “Dot” as she was called by her family and friends.

She was the “Rock” of her family as well as a very loving and hardworking wife, mother and sister. “Dot” worked in numerous fields, as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Licensed Beautician and she is recognized as being the first female to work on the Sanitation Trucks in Elizabeth city, NC.

Dot, our mother, our grandmother, our sister, our Aunt and loving Matriarch always looked after her family with much love and if you needed her, she was always there for others. She was a long time member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Elizabeth City, NC and later moved to the Windsor, North Carolina Congregation.  

To keep family and friends safe, the Turner Family has selected on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at ten o'clock in the morning, to Commemorate her life by holding a Zoom Service, the log-in information can be obtained from the family or by contacting the funeral home. At one o'clock in the afternoon, friends and family will safely meet at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC for the final viewing and burial (all Covid-19 health protocols will be followed, participants are requested to wear face coverings and practice social distancing during this time).

She is survived by her loyal devoted husband of sixty-four years- William E. Turner, Sr. of the home and  two sons; William Turner Jr. Bertie, NC, Rodney (Hiromi) Turner, Tokyo Japan; two special sons: Emmanuel Kinney, Weeksville, NC, Charles Overton, Newport News, VA; three daughters: Dianna Turner, New Bern, NC, Daisy Overton, Newport News, VA, and Andrea (Rudolph) Mebane, Colerain, NC; two sisters; Lillie Kinney- Wilson, Weeksville, NC and  Debora (Malcolm) Gethers, Elizabeth City, NC; one brother, Ernest Kinney, Elizabeth City, NC; a special brother Euqene Spellman, Richmond, VA; a special niece: Deborahnetta (Alvin) Howard, Durham, NC; a special nephew; Bernard (Laura) Gethers, Ashburn, VA.; one sister-in-Law and devoted friend Alma Walston, Ahoskie, NC. one aunt; Goldie George, Virginia Beach, VA. twenty- grandchildren, host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Also, special caregivers of the home; Bianca White, Shamekia Brown; great -grandchildren; Hazel “Ree Key” Nicayla “Pinky”, Nathaniel “Nate” and Tyleighona “Ty”, Zacheus “Zac” and Brianna “Nanna”. 

The Turner Family, found it fitting to entrust Ms. Dot into the capable hands, of the establishment that she chose, her lifetime friends at Dennis J. Stallings Memorial Funeral Home. They know that every one of their wishes and desires will be honored at DJSMFH.
