Obituary

"ALL day and ALL night ANGELS are watching over the Smith Family"

"Some folk would rather have houses and land.
Some folk choose silver and gold.
These things they treasure and forget about their souls;
I’ve decided to make Jesus my choice..."

During the early morning hours of Thursday, December 26, 2024 George Curtis Smith surrounded by the love and care of his supportive wife slipped peacefully into eternal rest. George , "Fought a good fight, he finished his course, he kept the Faith."

He was the son of the late Leroy and Sophia Smith. George was affectionately called ‘ Boot ’ by his close family. In his early years, he joined New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church in Corapeake, NC and remained a faithful member until his health began to fail.  During his many years at New Middle Swamp, he dedicated his time and talents serving as Treasurer and Trustee. He truly loved God and his church. He was reared in Gates County and graduated from Central High School in Gates, NC. He furthered his education by attending  and completing The Apprentice School in Newport News, VA. George went to work for Newport News Shipbuilding and remained there until he retired as a Master Shipbuilder after 43 years of service.

"The road is rough; the going gets tough,
and the hills are hard to climb.
I’ve started out a long time ago,
there’s no doubt in my mind;
I’ve decided to make Jesus my choice..."

George married Shelia Collins on June 14, 1975 and to this union two daughters were born. He was a supportive and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, in-law, and friend.

Promptly at the one o'clock hour, the Service of Triumph will begin, with Rev. Dr. Claude Odom bringing forth words of comfort to the family and friends. Immediately following the service " Boot " will be laid to rest on the terra firm of the New Middle Swamp Church.
